The First Call

How to Use AI to Become the Agent Homeowners Call Before Anyone Else

By Cameron Smith

On September 6, 2026, Cameron Smith launched a new website for homeowners in North Carolina's Triangle, with no ad spend. Twenty days later, a Cary townhouse owner left a voicemail asking for a market analysis, and he called Cameron before any other agent. He never said how he found Cameron. Every door he could have come through was one we built: search and AI answers. The First Call is the honest record of how that system was built, mistakes included, and a plan to build your own in thirty days.

The story behind the book

Why is it called The First Call?

In the NAR 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 80 percent of sellers contacted only one agent. The listing is often decided before any interview happens. This book is about being that one agent: the first credible name a homeowner finds, and the one who answers when they reach out, at 11 at night, on a Sunday, or in the middle of a showing.

What's inside

What will you learn in The First Call?

  • How to test your lead follow-up the way a stranger experiences it, and find the leaks you can't see
  • How to set up AI text, voice and email follow-up that says it's AI, never makes up numbers, and hands the conversation to you

About the author

Cameron Smith is a second-generation real estate agent and the founder of NXTGEN Agent. He grew up inside his parents' real estate business and got his license in April 2009, weeks after turning 18, as the market was collapsing. Before that, he raced motocross, winning a national championship at Loretta Lynn's in 1998 as a young kid, until an injury ended that career. Today he works with homeowners in Southwest Florida and North Carolina's Triangle, and with agents across the country, and his social profiles have drawn 25M+ views. Every week he hosts free open calls for agents, including the Thursday Billion Dollar Panel.
